Title: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: Gwynzer on March 28, 2011, 10:59:43 pm
EVERYONE UNDER 18, SEND ME A PM.
I've got some forms I'm going to need filled out.

Dates: 15th - 18th July

At a fancy lodge (http://www.oldkilmunhouse.com/) in Argyll, Scotland!  Places are limited, I'm afraid, so it's possible that not everyone will be able to come :(  At the clan staff meeting, we discussed pricing to be at about £60 per person, breaking it down to:
£30pp Paintball*. (£25 of that goes to 400 paintballs, may need more for anyone who's trigger happy)
£18pp Saturday Morning activities (Rock Climbing, Lasertag, Crossbows)
£10 On food, consumables etc.
£5 for fuel/travel costs.

*Paintballs available at:
100 paintballs £7
200 paintballs £13
300 paintballs £20
400 paintballs £25

If we're all running low, we'll pool any extra cash thats put into the Activitiy Fund (I'm sure everyone will be very generous :P) for more paintballs.  Take into account, I'm a Stingy Scottish Bastard, I'd just prefer you were conservative with your paintballs, and if we have any left, we'll get Blind to stand against a wall while everyone unloads whatever they've got left on him.

You may note that I've not included anything for rent of the lodge: the costs for this have been covered by myself, however it was expensive - If anyone is willing to chip in a little towards the costs of the lodge, it'd be much appreciated.

WHAT I NEED FROM YOU!

If you are going to be able to come, I need to know ASAP!  You're going to have to let me know of anything you think the event organisers will need to know, such as if you have any dietary requirements or medical needs.  I'm also willing put up a few folk at my place in the week before/after the event.  Let me know if you want to come by.  One thing important is transfer of funds - it's not needed right now, but if you can spare it, it'd be much appreciated.  Paypal is easy for me, however if this isn't an option for you, we can discuss bank transfer, or even sending cash through snail-mail.

Let me know of the above information via forum PM.  If anyone under the age of 16 is coming, I may have to get your folks to fill in some consent forms for some of the activities we're doing.

-----

Schedule (so far)
Arrive Friday Evening

Laser Tag, Rock Climbing and Crossbow range on Saturday Morning (start at 11)
Paintball Saturday Afternoon (2PMStart till about 5)

Hillwalking/Mountain Biking/enjoying the area all Sunday :)

Leave Monday morning.

-----

I'm looking into organising some other stuff like visiting historical sites, bowling, swimming etc.  The schedule will fill out eventually.

People definitely coming:
Gwynzer
EvilWhiteDragon
StealthEye
Shadeslayer
Run3
Benu
Guyver
Hoopoes
Blind
Trace

Maybes:
RSF Angel

Drivers:
Gwynzer (5 seats)
Rune/EWD (5 Seats?)
Guyver (Motorbike)

To get to the lodge, I'll have Benu, Hoopoes, Shade and myself in my car from Aberdeen.  Run3/EWD will have a full car with those two + Seye, Trace and Blind from liverpool, I believe.

@Pete, if you're coming, you're going to have to organise either coming to Aberdeen either Friday Morning or some point on Thursday.  That, or organise Glasgow(preferably) or Edinburgh flights, and I'll see if I can detour to pick you up.

@Guyver, if pete ain't coming, you'll have a spot in my tiny (cozy! :P) car for traveling to activities, to save you taking the bike across bad Scottish country roads.  If Pete is coming, we'll either have to put Blind (he's smallest) in someones boot, or you'll need to take the bike :<

I may edit this post later to make it easier to read :P

Notes for Gwynzer:

PB 1hr from Dunoon, hr brek, see what's in inverary for foods.

When would you like me to arrive? I was thinking Wednesday or Thursday?
Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: EvilWhiteDragon on March 29, 2011, 07:21:50 am
I would say arrival Friday (all day) because it can make a huge difference when flying and such... Not sure how we can organize that, but surely this should be possible.

Shades US, he's staying at mine for a while.

Shade: I'll be free from the 9th 'till the 24th; maybe earlier/later if it's needed, it shouldn't be an issue.  You come whenever you want.

For those flying in and just coming for the weekend, I recomend doing your best to get to glasgow airport on the friday.  You can maybe try edinburgh, but you may have to catch the train to glasgow yourself.   I will probably be able to transport 4 people (Shade + 3) from Aberdeen, though it'll be a tight fit if there's 4.

I'll either be going by car (doubtful as of now, because I do not have my own car) from the Nehterlands or by plane to one of the airports and rent a car there, if necessary.
Depending on the amount of cars/people we have, I might decide on renting a minivan, so we can carry 7 people in one car.

Another thing, we could go-kart as well.

Haven't had much luck finding any go-karting spots in the area.

Also...I have to ask the wife. yeah yeah, laugh all you like :P Its my birthday over that weekend so she may not want me to be away.

I'm going to probably be a "maybe" at the moment. I have been invited to go to Jamaica and to Holland in the summer. Trying to pick between which to go is VERY hard :(

EDIT: I'm actually seriously thinking if spending that much on a trip is a good idea. That's a lot of money. Ahhhhh! I could buy so many things with that. :(
You know that backing out now is like, quite an annoying and expensive thing for Gwynzer?

I'm not sure what your contract says about free days?
I know I got 5 free days (1 each month) and the ability to work at home, so :+
Oh and more importantly, my internship ends the 1st of July :P

You could always take a plane Friday evening and flying back on Sunday?

Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: EvilWhiteDragon on May 14, 2011, 11:12:12 am
Well, I've looked at it again.

Own carPresuming we have one available
Going by car might be fun, but will take probably 2 days, and a large part of way would be on the wrong side of the road. It's somewhere between 1200 and 1300 kilometers to get there, which means we would need about 1300/11*2=236 liters of fuel. Now I'm unsure what the fuel costs are in the UK or whatever, but estimating from dutch prices we'd pay about 236*1,65=390 Euros in fuel alone.

Since we would need to either take the ferry or the eurostar, costs would rise even more,
but haven't been able to find eurostar prices.
Ferry would save us some Km's, but costs with 4 people are a whopping 300 Euros as well making it a say 650 euro travel or 162,50 Euros each. With less than 4 people it's even worse.

Flight+car rental
Better idea could be flying to Liverpool (cheapest UK airport from Amsterdam) and rent a car there. That would cost 237 Euros for the flight and another 150 for the car (387 Euros) + (~400 km/11*2*1,65)= 507 Euros or 126,75.

(In)direct flight + pickup
Alternatively we could fly directly to Glasgow from Amsterdam for about 205 each or fly indirectly to Glasgow for about 127,50 Euros each. As an adition we could of course rent a car here as well.

Shade, Benu and Hoops are gonna be staying with me for a while.  I'll have one more space from Aberdeen/to stay at mine in the car.
Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011

Update for Seyes and me traveling.
Apparently you need a Creditcard to rent a car. That poses a problem since I don't have one, and since they require it to be in the first driver's name, we need someone who has a drivers license and has a creditcard. Kind of annoying :/

We've figured out that flying to liverpool or manchester is a lot cheaper, even with extra fuel costs. Saves about 100 euros each.

Flying indirectly to glasgow would cost over 6 hours in travel time, excluding from and to the airport and is not that much cheaper than traveling directly.

Direct flight from Amsterdam is about 200 euros to glasgow, but then we're still not at the lodge :/

I do have both but I don't think that they allow me to rent a car since I'm not 21 yet.

I guess so :P How old are you? I mean, above 24 you don't need to pay extra for renting. As far as I have been able to find, if I'm the or one of the drivers, we'll need to pay extra cuz apparently they think I can't drive :P

I presume that means you're coming :D

More drivers for rented cars means the rental company wants more money, or that you are technically not insured. Something that might not be a good idea in a foreign country where people drive on the wrong side of the road and have the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car.

I though I replied on this topic already. Well anyway, here it goes:

Ok, so I guess you (Run3) will need to rent a car and inform us to which airport you'll be flying. For dutchies (and perhaps Blind?) it's the cheapest to fly to Manchester or Liverpool by about 100 euros each, but if you prefer Glasgow or Edinburgh then we'll have to fly there I guess.

I'm not sure if Trace and Blind will be joining us or not, but you have at least 2 confirmed passengers ;)

Let us know on which airport you plan on arriving and on what time, so we can plan our flight as well ;)

Gwynzer: make blind reply in this topic about his plans.

Well I'm planning to come along, but I can't really plan a lot yet as I have exams coming up next week.
I checked some tickets with ebookers and ryanair and I can get to Edinburgh from Belgium with Ryanair for around 185 euros.
From Brussels to Liverpool for around 80 euros and to Manchester it's 145.
And Glasgow is over 200 euros.

I'll try to get some more this weekend if I find the time for (remember) it.

For a 6 hour drive its better to have 2 drivers indeed, just have to see how much that will increase the costs.
EWD/Rune/Seye, can we talk at some point about when/what we fly? Plane tickets tend to get more expensive the longer you wait :P (and I'd have a full picture of the costs rather sooner than later)

I guess we should wait till rune decided on his flight and then plan our flight accordingly.

For the higher costs for a secondary driver, I guess it might be good either way, since it is a long drive and it's on the wrong side of the road as well.

Its anywhere between 25 and 60 euroes for an extra driver, i am ordering my flight tomorrow (monday) but as it looks right now the cheapest flight to Liverpool is actually over Amsterdam so we might end up arriving at the same time...

Well that might be fun anyway, to meet up at Schiphol (Amsterdam) and then fly to liverpool. Personally I prefer arriving somewhere in the morning on in liverpool, say around 10'ish as that'll give us plenty of time to go to the house without arriving really late or having to rush (something I really want to avoid because wrong side of the road :P).

So... Now my flight is booked.
I will leave Copenhagen at 06:00 and be in Amsterdam at 07:25 on the 15th
then leave Amsterdam at 09:35 and arrive in Liverpool 09:55

Thats should leave us plenty of time for renting a car and driving to the cottage...

Then going back again my flight leaves from Liverpool at 17:25 and arrives at Amsterdam at 19:40 on the 18th
then i leave Amsterdam at 21:15 and arrive home in Denmark at 22:35

Quick question: with which company are you flying?
I checked and for us Easyjet seems the cheapest, but their times are a bit different (9.05 from amsterdam, 9.25 in liverpool)
Flight back is at 19.10 on monday 18th
Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: EvilWhiteDragon on June 14, 2011, 02:36:24 pm
Looks like KLM airlines. Stupid thing is that it's probably cheaper for Run3 than for us dutchies. Otherwise I'm not sure why Run3 took the flight that's roughly twice as expensive (122 euros it says here) :?.
I guess we'll take Easyjet then and meet up in Liverpool, as it's a lot cheaper, and Run3 won't be waiting for us to arrive then ;)

I do think we can meet up before our flights in Amsterdam though, seeing that we need to be there earlier anyway.
Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: EvilWhiteDragon on June 15, 2011, 07:59:45 am
OK, StealthEye, Trace and me will be flying from Amsterdam at 9.05 the 15th of July. If Run3 is interested he could meet up with us before we leave for Liverpool, as we will probably arrive around 7.30-7.45 at Schiphol airport. We'll need to go through customs, but after that (around 8ísh I guess) we are in the same section of the airport and we can't enter the gate until 8.25, I guess.

Blind might or might not travel with us on the same plane, it depends on whether he can get to Amsterdam in time.

Run3, you've arranged a car yet or?

That's a fair detour,  You guys may also have to divert to Glasgow train stations to pick up Guyver too. Managing to treavel that distance on a motorbike is no easy feat.
Title: Re: BI Meet: 2011
Post by: EvilWhiteDragon on July 07, 2011, 07:23:01 am
Well, car is full I think, because we went with a 5 seater car because of Edinburgh isn't exactly in our neighborhood.... We though Blind would travel with you or something?

Edit: presuming that run3 booked the car... And I think it's not a good idea to drive by Edinburgh, as it will take us on a 100km or ~62mi  detour and adds little more than an hour to our driving time.
Now I wasn't too much of a fan of driving on the wrong side of the road to start with, but adding that much time does not seem like a sensible idea.
I guess Glasgow wouldn't be too bad (although smaller places would be easier I guess), but edinburgh, really why? And, again, we might not be able to fit in the car... a 7 seater car is like 100-120 euro's more than a regular 5 seater... So basically it's a car more for 2 more seats.

Friso/Rune mentioned to me, that considering now Friso is coming, that makes the people traveling around from dutchie-land to 6 (fris, blind, run3, seye, trace, EWD) and they were gonna look into a minivan/people carrier

If it helps, seye or me might be able to offer a place to sleep and to get to schiphol for blind. It would be at seyes or my parents place which might comfort blinds parents a bit more. Alternatively I could have a chat with them, which might help because I'm rather easy to track down, as main financial admin and everything...

You chatting with them may be best.  I've told him he'll probably be able to stay at yours for a night or two (Friso also offered), but his folks aren't happy with that.  If you actually speak to his parents, however, we might have more luck.

That was waht I was thinking. Particularly the fact that (I think) I have proven some level of responsibility by living on my own and being able to run a community like BlackIntel as a student. Something that also could help in this is the fact that BlackIntel has a revenue of almost 3700 Euros since October 2006, and is still running with it's own servers and such.

Since i havent really gotten any replies i guess we are going for an MPV...

I would think that we would not go for an MPV, because if someone really needs the vehicle to be an MPV it's blind and since he's communicating so efficiently, I'm not going to pay for it.

Well... we are 6 people even without blind aren't we... no way we can squeeze 6 people in a 5 person car for 400km +

I'm going to need to picking up from Glasgow train station, I really don't think I have enough road experience to make it 300+ miles in one piece. If you want me to I could help put some money towards transport.

Where are you coming from anyway? I mean, we'll be at Liverpool airport anyway, so picking you up there is probably a hell of a lot easier than going into the city of Glasgow on the wrong side of the road. Or basically, any small place which is (somewhat) on the route is preferable.

I'll be coming from Blackburn in Lancashire which is only about 50 miles from Liverpool. If you want to pick me up from here that would be great but I'm more than willing to get the train to Liverpool to make it easier for you.

Let's see:
Liverpool airport -> Blackburn -> Kilmun, Scotland = 278 mijl,5 uur 43 min.
Liverpool airport -> Liverpool Lime Street Rail station-> Kilmun, Scotland = 265 mijl,5 uur 37 min.

I guess it doesn't make much of a difference, except that I suppose Blackburn is a smaller place and thus easier on the traffic. Best thing would be you coming to the airport and I think the second best thing is being on some access road to Blackburn where it's easy to pick you up.

Well... we will have to go through Glasgow anyways from what i can see on google maps, we will come from the M74 and transition through Glasgow to the M8 and that should bring us quite close to Glasgow central station

Can all of the people who will travel in that car come together at IRC somewhere today or tomorrow?
Sorting things out via the forum goes a bit slow.
I suggest at least EWD, Run3, Guy and Blind (if possible) are present at this meeting.

Will send this in PM to those as well.

My first proposal would be 20.00 UK time today, let me know if you guys are available, and if not what other date suits you.

I'm flexible with times as well, both 18:00 UK (http://www.blackintel.org/time?time=10-07-2011+18:00Europe/London) and 20:00 UK (http://www.blackintel.org/time?time=10-07-2011+20:00Europe/London). Just let me know which one it will be to avoid confusion. :P

It seems that the winds will drop during the nights, so I guess we'll be ok ;)

Anyway, if we get a couple of laptops in Scotland we could do some lan games on sunday :) I'll have Flatout 2 and some other old games with me, together with quite a bunch of movies and music. I don't have a HDMI cable with me however, so that could be problem.
