Title: Favorite Meal(s)
Post by: Slyfox on February 06, 2010, 05:53:18 pm
Alright, there hasn't been much activity here on the forums recently, so I decided to post something random but interesting. Say what your favorite meal is and even your second and third favorite. Heck, you could even do a top 100 list! In other words, tell everyone what you like to eat. Also tell us what you hate.

O.K. my favorite meal is sheperds pie. You know, with corn, mashed potatoes, ground beef (spelling check), and other small ingredients that enhance the flavor. Good with and without ketchup.  ;D

Second favorite: buritos (I wonder how many mistakes I made spelling the different foods).  ;D

I love junk food, especially chips (or crisps, as some n00bs say) and soft drinks.

I hate salad, except for Greek salad. I prefer cooked foods a lot more than fresh stuff.

I hope everyone posts something in this topic, because if you don't, I just might hate other things besides some food. (All meant in good taste)  :P

Why not :P

Favourite meal is my vegetable pasta with Quorn.
2nd Favourite, any boiled rice with lentils, black beans etc (any pulses)

Don't really hate anything, except I don't eat meat (by choice alone); including fish.

Not my favourite, but I do LOVE Haggis, Chicken and Whiskey sauce.  Esp when wrapping the Haggis inside the chicken with Bacon. Om nom nom.

Oh, also: Haggis Pizza.  I was shocked to find it actually existed, and had to give it a try.  Ended up loving it.

You mean cottage pie. Shepherds pie is made from Lamb, cottage is from beef. I too love cottage pie, but I am really fussy, I like it when we use roast beef for a Sunday, but get a piece too big, then grind the roast beef to make it. It's way more effort, but really is a more tasty option. Try it...

My fave dinner has to be Christmas dinner though, with Turkey breast. Yum yum!

@LeeumDee: Your food is alright, but what on earth is Quorn?

@Trace: How do you make Dutch pancakes? I love pancakes.

@Gwynzer: Are you joking about Haggis? Because it sounds disgusting.

@reborn: You know what we call cottage/sheperds pie in french? Pâté Chinois which means: Chinese pie. There is a story behind that. Anyway, Christmas dinner is so-so, but the turkey is good.

More posts guys!
C'MON!

@LeeumDee: Your food is alright, but what on earth is Quorn?

Quorn is a meat substitute, I include it in many of my meals. As it's high in protein which I really lack with not eating meats or fish.

@Trace: How do you make Dutch pancakes? I love pancakes.
i use mix for pancakes from a package :P
If ur really interested i could search for a recipe.
Our pancakes are larger and thicker then the english ones (thats one thing i know cuz my homem8 who lived in the UK always whines i make them too thick :P). I like them with cheese and bacon especially, but you can really vary a lot with ingredients (think about fruit etc).

Chicken breast stuffed with onions, mushrooms, peppers and cheese, wrapped in pancetta, then oven baked.

Slice 1/2 lb mushrooms, 1 pepper and 1 onion and fry until soft in a little olive oil, adding basil, thyme, oregano, garlic and a little chopped chilli. Once the onion is clear add a glass and a half of white wine and the same amount again of good chicken stock, allow it to reduce a little. Remove from the heat and seperate the vegetables from the liquid, remember to keep BOTH!

Now, while the vegetables are still warm, grate in a little bit of cheese, I like to use a mild cheddar, but you could use anything really I suppose. You only need enough to gently melt in to the vegetables and help them stick together. Taste to make sure the cheese does not overpower the flavour though.

Now, take four chicken breasts and carefully make a pocket inside them by pushing a knife and inside and cutting a pocket, similar to making to chicken kiev. You do not want to cut the chicken in half or else everything will leak out. Once happy, push some of the vegetable and cheese mix inside, as push as you can fit in.

When all four breasts are stuffed, wrap a little pancetta around them, or you can use ordinary bacon. I find pancetta goes much crispier though. When wrapped in the pancetta (or bacon) lay them in an ovenproof dish and pour over some of the chicken and white wine you used with the vegetables. This helps keep the chicken moist as well as keeping in the flavours from the herbs etc. You only need to pour in enough stock so its about halfway up the sides of the chicken. If you have any vegetable and cheese stuff left over then spread it evenly over the top of each breast as well.
I also like to grate a little more cheese on top.

Bake in an oven at 200 degrees C for about half an hour to forty five minutes depending on the size of the chicken breats.

Serve with boiled potatoes or with pasta dressed in a little olive oil and garlic bread.

It tastes lovely.  We made some for Ati, and I think we did that for benu when he visited too.  Get their opinions!

Pancakes (with bacon... hmmmmmm *drool*)

Andum, PIZZA! ftw

Well, of course we got delicous complicated meals with lots of ingredients which might taste better once in a while, but these are stuff I can make on my own (or buy them on my own xD) and are easy, tasty and always welcomed by my stomach...

You all eat turkey on Christmas Eve? In Denmark, either duck or roasted pork is served with potatoes, brown sauce made with the juice from the meat. Red cabbage is normally served as a side dish - and Waldorf salad" is another side dish.
For desert the most traditional ones serve Ris a la mande - and others serve normal rice pudding. Both contain several halved almonds, however it is tradition to have a present for the one(s) finding one or more whole almonds.

My fav meals:

Whatever my dad makes in the weekends... damn that's delicious...

One of the best, is salmon served with spaghetti and a special vegetable sauce that tasted unbelievably good.

@ Twigs: Now post in metric measures pl0z!

Probably with mayo.

Though I must admit, cheesy chips are good.

Vegetable sauce? Are you sure that isn't water cress sauce? With some White truffles (or white truffle cooking oil if too expensive) that would make the meal even better! :-D

I ate snails in Brussels, with a Garlic sauce. I thought they wasn't very nice, the texture was horrible, and the garlic sauce was nothing special, I wouldn't try them again. However I followed it up with a rabbit patè and that was nice, lovely actually.

He follows this recipe (that I don't know, but could get and post...) and then filters out the vegetables. He then uses the vegetables for for instance a meat sauce or stew or something...

And I'm quite sure it's not watercress soup nor sauce... mostly because it turns out red, and it contains tomatoes and carrots, and lots of other stuff...

I said watercress as that is traditional, but if we all cooked traditionaly we wouldn't have chilli chocolate...

You should post this delicious sounding recipe, infact we could all post our own fave personal recipes.

Recipe?

My Vegetable Quorn pasta is easy. And the Quorn can obviously substituted for meat for the meat eaters.

All the ingredients needed:
Tinned tomatoes
Fresh tomatoes
Tomato paste
Quorn pieces
Fresh Peppers
Onions
Cucumber
Fresh Spinach (not tinned! >.>)
Garlic

And for taste, according to how you like it:

Garlic powder
Chili powder
Black Peppers
Salt

Pretty simple to make, throw everything in a pan. After lightly frying onions and Quorn. Use spinach to top off after serving :P

Home made Tomato soup:

One large table spoon of green basil pesto
basil leaves
1 tbsp butter
5 soft sun-dried or SunBlush tomatoes, roughly chopped
2-3 sticks of celery, chopped
3 cans of plum tomatoes
2 medium Onions, chopped
Half a pint/500ml of vegatable stock (I cheat and use those know veg stock pots)
1 garlic cloves , crushed
1 tsp sugar
150ml soured cream
Pinch of salt
Pinch of pepper

Stick the contects of the tomato cans in a sauce-pan and cook on a medium heat, do not let it boil.
Add in the sugar, garlick and the stock.
When the contents is getting hot I then pan pry the Onions for a little while till they are cooked, then add the chopped celery and tomotoes. After 5 or so minutes this is added to the sauce-pan.
I then add the cream and gently stir it in bit by bit.
I then add and stir in half of the pesto.

Just before it all starts to boil I sling it in a liquidiser/blender, adding salt/pepper to taste.
Pour into a bowl to serve, then generally dress the top of the soup with the rest of the pesto, and a little bit of a White twirl from some cream.
Normally I've also got some crusty bread from the bakers too.

@Twigs: Your recipe sounds delicious. My dad will make in a couple days. He agrees with me on this one.

@reborn: Tomato soup is always great. I haven't had any in a long time... If I make it, I won't use any celery. Celery is poison.  :o

@Dexter: Salmon is the best fish to eat. No exceptions. Pasta is great with anything. What is your special vegetable sauce?

@Most of you: I'll eat anything italian. Most days we eat pasta, really good with fresh ingredients and cooked ingredients (together).

One of the greatest meals and it will probably kill you if you eat to much (in the long run): POUTINE. Or do you guys call it messy fries? Anyway, french fries, cheese curds, drenched in gravy sauce. You can add other stuff like meat and so on.

I've never bothered to figure out how to use the quote system, I should check it out.

Using the quote button perhaps? Then you get the quote either in your quick reply window or in a new window.

On favourite food: Not too sure, anything which has been decently cooked in general. Although I'm not a fan of fish mostly.
